Mike AilenGhorepani Poon Hill Trekking

Given the short amount of time I had here in Nepal I think Arjun showed we as much of the country possible. Having found Arjun on couchsurfing.com,while in china I had no idea until I arrived that he was also a trekking guide fortunate for me. We left the morning after my arrival and headed to Pokhara to start the gorepani/Poonhill trek. The trek itself is a moderate one passing through lush river valleys and spacious rice farms. Lodgings along the way are quite mice as far as travel lodges go. Once at Gorepani the view of the mountain is spectacular. A good after noon rest along with a hearty dinner had we excited to wake up to climb Poonhill for the sunrise. A top Poon hill was little cold but the hot tea station there made that much easier to bear. As the sun came up, the horizon was a glow, bright blue, green and orange. The scenery of Fishtail and Annapurna south are impressive. As it becomes lighter dhaulagiri catches the first rays of sun. The peaks in the foreground are dwarfed by its massive peak. A magical sight for sure. The rest of that day continued to green with mou astounding mountain views. I can't tell you how surprised I was at everything in Nepal…. The people, the geography everything more than I could have wanted. Hopefully next time I will have the opportunity to explore so much more. For now, though, I have to say "until next time…" Thank you Arjun for an authentic and exciting Nepali adventure. See you soon my friend!
